Ancient legends carry captivating stories that reveal a community's history, beliefs, and core values. LALAWA, meaning "story" in the Shao language, highlights the enchanting tales of the Shao people. In the legend of the White Deer, key elements like the white deer, hunting dogs, fish, autumn maple trees, and Sun Moon Lake hold deep significance in Shao culture. This artwork draws from these symbols, transforming them into a cohesive design. This artwork extracts the contours of Sun Moon Lake from early maps, using them as the central visual element. The location of the Thao ancestral island depicted in the map is represented in the piece by an Autumn Maple Tree, surrounded by the lake’s waters. Flowing water lines adorned with fish lead to the center, encircling layered mountains, symbolizing the Thao people's harmonious way of life integrated with nature. This artwork invites visitors to explore the stories of the Shao people, deepening their understanding of the bond between culture and nature at Sun Moon Lake.
